Back in the sling of things!

Oh, hello there! I'm back in my sling, this time post surgery. I got a super fancy one this time, it is way more comfortable than the one I got last November when I dislocated my shoulder. My surgery was last Wednesday and I have to say it hasn't been too horrible. I had gotten pretty worked up hearing some horror stories, but at a week out the only thing that really hurts about it is my elbow and my forearm from sitting in the stupid sling all day. Next week I get to take a break from it, either at night or during the day, either way I'm looking forward to not wearing it 24/7.

So, of course I haven't been taking it as easy as my doctor would probably like but I'm feeling great, especially after getting in a little workout action. We had bought a recumbent bike last month for me to be able to use here at home while I'm off work recovering (I get 30 days!). I try to get in ten miles on there and then I started a 30 day squat challenge. Here's the problem with the squat challenge, I can't manage to remember to do it more than one day in a row. Well, shit. So, its more like I do a good number of squats every other day or so, haha. I've been making it back into Flex VA Beach every other day to get on the elliptical and do some leg work and light upper body lifting with my left side. I can't jostle my shoulder around, so I set the elliptical to the highest resistance and do intervals on there, I really work up a sweat and my legs are sore! It's annoying having to have the guys there help me rack weights to do leg/chest work, but they've all been pretty helpful.

Ryker is getting huge and he is into EVERYTHING! We finally had to semi baby proof, we just got those outlet covers and popped those suckers in. I can't believe he's almost a year old. That's nuts. He eats like a big boy now. His daily menu includes variations of the following:

Oat bran with bananas
Egg yolks fried up
Apple sauce
Yogurt with flax seed
Dr. Praeger's Little Fishies
Dr. Praeger's Spinach Littles
Green beans
Chicken meatloaf

I make as much at home as I can with organic, free range or grass fed sources. The Dr. Praeger's stuff is organic, I think, and all the ingredients are something I can pronounce, they are nice for something quick! I'm not planning on starting him on milk next month when he hits one year, which is when it is generally suggested that you give them whole milk. There really is no need for it as long as he is getting the needed fat and vitamins from his diet, so there you go! Everything is cleared by our pediatrician except the applesauce, which he had said might be too much for his little system but at that point I had already been feeding it to him and he loves it with no bad reactions.

Recently we've had his first Easter, I ran the ODU Big Blue 5k with him (first time I pushed the BOB in a race), took him for a day at the beach and Uncle Aren and Grandma Cindy came to visit! He's just so much fun and every day I'm thankful for my beautiful little boy.

He's a crawling maniac and now he's started to pull himself up and stand at a right angle. He's got two little teeth on the bottom and chews on everything, but loves my cell phone most I think. The other day we got him to repeat "Hi" but thats pretty much it besides "Dada". When I try to get him to say "Momma" or "Mommy" he just smiles like "yea right, Mom". Someday. Well, Vic just got home and its Friday Funday. Off to go enjoy my little family before some crazy storms roll into Virginia. Have a great weekend!
